Connection types explained

Fiber, cable, 5G or satellite: what's the difference?

The technology behind your connection shapes speed, reliability and price more than any brand name.

Fiber

Data travels as light over glass strands, delivering the fastest and most consistent connection. Upload speeds usually match download speeds.

Great for

  • Working from home and video calls
  • Online gaming
  • Uploading large files and live streaming

Keep in mind

  • Not available at every address yet
  • Installation may require a technician visit

FAQs

Internet questions, answered

How do I know which internet providers are available at my address?

Availability is set street by street, so two neighbors can have different options. Share your address with an advisor and we'll check which providers and connection types serve your home before you make any decisions.

Is fiber always better than cable?

Fiber usually offers faster and matching upload speeds with lower latency, which helps with video calls, gaming and large uploads. Cable is widely available and handles streaming and everyday use very well. The best choice depends on what's available at your address and how your household uses the internet.

What internet speed do I need?

Most households are comfortable with 200 to 300 Mbps. Homes with several 4K streams, gamers or remote workers may benefit from 500 Mbps to 1 Gig. Use the speed finder on this page for a quick estimate based on your household.

Is satellite internet good enough for working from home?

Satellite works well for email, browsing and streaming, and it's often the only option in rural areas. Its higher latency can make real-time video calls and gaming less smooth, so we'll also check whether fixed wireless or other options reach your address.

Does it cost anything to use Symzitech Solutions?

No. Our guidance is free to you. As an authorized retailer, we may be compensated by providers when you sign up, and your service is billed directly by the provider you choose.

Can I keep my current provider while I compare?

Yes. Comparing doesn't change your existing service. If you decide to switch, we'll help you plan the timing so you aren't left without internet, and remind you to check any early termination terms.
