Why satellite on the water
On a boat, connectivity is a safety system
Weather changes fast offshore. Satellite keeps forecasts, GRIB files and emergency calling within reach, and gives guests and crew the connection they expect.
- Live weather routing
- Calls and texts at sea
- Guest and crew Wi-Fi
- Remote vessel monitoring

Coverage by distance
What works at each range from shore
Your connectivity needs change as land drops behind you. Here is how the options shift from the dock to bluewater.
- 01Dockside
Marina
Marina Wi-Fi and cell work well. Your satellite system stays ready for departure.
- 020 to 20 nm
Coastal
Cell signal becomes patchy. Fleet One Coastal keeps calls and weather coming in.
- 0320 to 200 nm
Offshore
No cell service. Satellite is your only link for weather routing and safety.
- 04Ocean passages
Bluewater
Global L-band or multi-orbit service for crossings, deliveries and remote cruising.

- Bonded multi-orbit network
- Guest and crew Wi-Fi
- Video calls and streaming
- Managed service
Every vessel heading offshore
Safety layer
L-band is known for staying up in heavy rain and rough seas. Many owners keep it as a resilient backup even when they run a faster primary system.

FAQs
Viasat marine internet questions
Does Viasat offer internet for boats?
Yes. Through Inmarsat, a Viasat company, Viasat offers maritime services including Fleet One for leisure and small fishing boats and NexusWave for superyachts and commercial vessels.
What is Fleet One?
Fleet One is an affordable L-band satellite service for boats that provides voice, messaging, email and basic data. It comes in Coastal and Global versions and uses a compact antenna.
What is NexusWave?
NexusWave is a fully managed multi-orbit connectivity service that bonds Ka-band, low-earth orbit, L-band and LTE networks. It is designed for crewed yachts and commercial fleets that need high-speed, office-like internet.
Can I stream video on my boat with Viasat?
On Fleet One, no. It is a narrowband service for messaging, voice and weather. For streaming and video calls you need a broadband service such as NexusWave or another high-throughput system.
Does it work while the boat is moving?
Yes. Marine terminals are designed to track the satellite while the vessel is underway and rolling in a seaway.
Can I use my Viasat home plan on my boat?
No. Viasat residential plans are for a fixed address with a fixed dish. Boats need a maritime service and a marine-rated stabilized antenna.
Does weather affect marine satellite internet?
L-band services like Fleet One are very resilient to rain, which is why they are popular as a safety layer. Higher-frequency Ka-band can fade in heavy rain, which is one reason multi-orbit bonding exists.
Is there emergency calling?
Fleet One includes emergency calling to a maritime rescue coordination center. It complements, but does not replace, required safety equipment like an EPIRB and VHF radio.
Who installs the marine antenna?
A qualified marine electronics dealer or installer. We help you choose the service, and the installer handles mounting, cabling and testing.
Why talk to Symzitech Solutions about boat internet?
We help you understand the options in plain language, match a service to how and where you cruise, and point you to the right next step at no cost.
