Why symmetrical matters

Uploads that keep up

Most cable plans upload at a fraction of their download speed. Here is how long common uploads take on Brightspeed Fiber compared with a typical cable upload.

Estimated upload times by plan speed
uploadTypical cable200 Mbps500 Mbps940 Mbps2 Gig8 Gig
100 photos (500MB)1.9 min20 sec8 sec4 sec2 sec1 sec
4K video clip (10GB)38 min6.7 min2.7 min1.4 min40 sec10 sec
Full laptop backup (250GB)15 hr 52 min2 hr 47 min1 hr 7 min35 min17 min4.2 min

Estimates at full plan speed over a wired connection. Typical cable column assumes a 35 Mbps upload speed for comparison. Real-world Wi-Fi times are longer.

  • Cloud backups

Photo and file backups finish in minutes instead of running overnight.

  • Video calls

Your camera feed stays sharp even when others in the home are streaming.

  • Content creation

Upload 4K video to YouTube or send large files to clients without waiting.

  • Security cameras

Several cameras can stream to the cloud at once without slowing the home.

Wi-Fi 7

A router built for multi-gig

  • Wi-Fi 7 router included

Every fiber plan comes with a Wi-Fi 7 enabled router built to carry multi-gig speeds to your devices.

  • Wider channels

320 MHz channels on the 6 GHz band move more data at once to new phones, laptops and consoles.

  • Steadier gaming and calls

Multi-link operation spreads traffic across bands, which helps keep latency low during busy evenings.

  • Built for smart homes

Cameras, thermostats, speakers and EV chargers can share the network without crowding out streaming.

FAQs

Brightspeed Fiber questions

What fiber speeds does Brightspeed offer?

Plans include 200 Mbps, 500 Mbps, 1 Gig (940 Mbps), 2 Gig, 5 Gig and 8 Gig. The 5 Gig and 8 Gig tiers are limited to select areas.

Why is 1 Gig listed as 940 Mbps?

Some capacity on a gigabit connection is used by network overhead, so 940 Mbps is the realistic maximum you will measure on a wired gigabit device.

What router comes with Brightspeed Fiber?

Fiber plans include a Wi-Fi 7 enabled router. Real Wi-Fi speeds depend on your devices, distance and walls, so wired connections test fastest.

Do I need 5 Gig or 8 Gig?

Most homes do not. Those tiers are for households with many heavy users, large file uploads or multi-gig wired devices. 1 Gig or 2 Gig covers nearly every family.

How much faster is fiber upload than cable?

Cable plans often upload at 20 to 50 Mbps. Brightspeed Fiber uploads at the same speed as it downloads, so even Fiber 200 uploads several times faster than typical cable.

Is there an installation fee for fiber?

Installation charges may apply depending on your address and plan. We confirm any fee and any active install promotion before you order.

Can I keep my own router?

Many customers can connect their own router behind Brightspeed's equipment, but the included Wi-Fi 7 router is the simplest way to get full multi-gig speeds.

Will my fiber price go up?

Brightspeed pricing is subject to change. We note whether your price is promotional and what it is expected to be later so you can plan ahead.

Which fiber plans include a prepaid card?

Fiber 1 Gig often includes a $150 card, while Fiber 2 Gig, 5 Gig and 8 Gig can include $250 at qualifying addresses. Fiber 200 and 500 focus on a lower monthly price.

How do I know if fiber is at my address?

Fiber availability can vary from one street to the next. Call us with your address and we will check the exact plans offered at your home.
