The network
Fiber-powered vs. 100% fiber
Spectrum Internet uses a hybrid fiber-coax network. Fiber carries data through the vast majority of the route, then a coaxial line connects to your home. It supports multi-gig speeds and is widely available.
In some newer areas, Spectrum builds 100% fiber all the way to the home. Either way, you get unlimited data and the same no-contract terms.
Budget-conscious households may qualify for Spectrum Internet Assist, a lower-cost high-speed plan for eligible low-income homes.
FAQs
Spectrum Internet questions
What internet speeds does Spectrum offer?
Spectrum Internet plans typically start at several hundred Mbps and go up to 1 Gig, with multi-gig speeds available where the network supports it. Exact tiers depend on your address, which we confirm during your availability check.
Does Spectrum Internet have data caps?
No. Spectrum Internet plans come with unlimited data and no data caps, so streaming, gaming, working from home and large downloads never trigger overage charges or speed throttling based on usage.
What equipment is included with Spectrum Internet?
A Spectrum modem is included with your internet service at no additional cost. Many plans also include a WiFi router, and higher tiers include Advanced WiFi with built-in security and whole-home coverage options.
How much internet speed does my household need?
A good rule of thumb is about 100 Mbps for one or two light users, 300 to 500 Mbps for families that stream and work from home, and 1 Gig for large households, heavy gamers or creators uploading big files. We size the plan to your actual devices.
Is Spectrum Internet fiber?
Spectrum uses a hybrid fiber-coaxial network: fiber carries traffic most of the way to your neighborhood, and coaxial cable completes the connection to your home. In select areas, Spectrum also offers fiber-to-the-home service.
Can I install Spectrum Internet myself?
Yes. If your home already has an active Spectrum connection, you can choose a Self-Install Kit with step-by-step instructions in the My Spectrum app. Professional installation is available when wiring or setup needs a technician.
How do I get strong WiFi in every room?
Start with a router in a central, open location. For larger or multi-level homes, Spectrum WiFi Pods work with Advanced WiFi to create a mesh system that extends coverage and removes dead zones.
Why is my WiFi speed lower than my plan speed?
Plan speeds are delivered to your modem and measured over a wired connection. WiFi speed depends on device age, distance from the router, walls and interference. Using a wired connection for desktops and consoles helps you get the full speed you pay for.
Does Spectrum include online security?
Spectrum Security Shield is included with Advanced WiFi on eligible plans. It helps protect connected devices from malicious websites and threats at the network level, and you can manage it from the My Spectrum app.
Does Spectrum offer affordable or low-income internet?
Spectrum offers lower-priced entry plans and has participated in programs for qualifying low-income households. Eligibility and current offers change over time, so ask us and we will check which affordable options apply to you.
